Welcome to the University of North Carolina’s Department of Emergency Medicine. Our Emergency Department consists of 40 clinical and research faculty—as well as additional adjunct faculty—involved in providing top-tier teaching, administration, research, and clinical care. Our department sees approximately 70,000 adults and 15,000 pediatric patients yearly. As one of the largest referral centers in North Carolina, we see some of the highest acuity patients in the state, with an admit rate near 30%. We are a certified Level I Trauma Center, state Burn Center, and JCHAO Stroke Center.

ºÚÁÏÍø’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program Celebrates its First “Legacy Match,” as Dr. Matthew Harmody is Followed by His Son Andrew, 25 Years Later!
Dr. Matthew Harmody is an alumnus of the ºÚÁÏÍø Emergency Medicine residency class of 2000, the third emergency medicine class trained at ºÚÁÏÍø Hospitals. He and Andrew recently celebrated Match Day together as part of the festivities in ºÚÁÏÍø’s Roper Hall.
